Our most importnant yearly project is the orgnaisation of our summer camps. We have two types of camps: daycare camps at our locations and one overnight camp in the vicinity of Budapest which is always our last camp in the summer.
The daycare camps generally last for 6 days, from 9 am until 4.30 pm, each day. On weekdays we start with some physical or mindfulness exercise and after we hold 3 educational activities, with a lunch break inbetween. At the end of the day, in the last 1-1.5 hours the kinds work on a project within the same group throughout the week. On Saturday, we go on an excursion either to visit some natural site, or to a close-by city. For instance, we have been to adventure parks, museums, gone on a hike and to the beach. At the end of the week, the children present their group projects to each other. At the end of each day, we reflect on what happened during the day. Additionally, each kid has a mentor whit whom they can talk in confidence.
Our yearly overnight camp also focuses on integration. We invite the most motivated 5th to 8th greaders from our villages who partook in our daycamp, but we also invite children from different backgrounds. The schedule is similar to of our daycare camps: 3 educational programs, and in the fourth period the campers participate in a group project. Unlike in the daycare camps, they can choose from multiple options, we generally have a music, an art, an economics or social science, a scince, or a STEM related project. Besides these programmes, we also have at least two day trips to Budapest, where we visit a number of educational institutions. For example, we visited an interactive theatre, a contemporary art museum, the mineral collection of the Eötvös Loránd University, the Bionics department of Pázmány Péter University, and the National Ambulance Service. During the evening, each room has their mentors with whom the children can reflect on the day and who help them go to sleep.
